noonscoomo c3098846e7 esp32: OVMS v3 target — LTE over PPP, signed remote updates, native CAN
Adds a second hardware target: the OVMS v3 module (classic ESP32, 16 MB flash,
SIM7600G modem, 3x CAN, powered from the OBD connector). The Heltec/LoRa board
stays buildable but is no longer the direction.

- board_ovms_v3.h + an ovms-v3 PlatformIO env; capability flags replace board
assumptions. Migrated that env to Arduino core 3.x (pioarduino), which cost
only two mbedTLS 2.x->3.x fixes in bluegate.cpp.
- modem.{h,cpp}: SIM7600 bring-up over PPP. The modem PWRKEY is momentary and
sits behind a MAX7317 expander (egpio.{h,cpp}), so power-on probes first and
pulses only if the modem is silent - a blind power cycle lands it in whichever
  state it was not in.
NOTE PPP.setApn() does not survive PPP.begin(): begin() resets the modem and
dials a default IPV4V6 context with no APN, so the APN is set in command mode
afterwards and re-dialled. Without that: registered, attached, no IP, forever.
- ota_lte.{h,cpp}: pull-based firmware update over HTTP/TCP. Verifies SHA-256
and an ECDSA P-256 signature against a compiled-in public key before writing,
and arms a rollback that restores the previous image if the new one cannot
bring the link up. Fails closed with no key. tools/ota_publish.sh builds,
signs and uploads; tools/version.py stamps every build from git describe.
- can_uds.{h,cpp}: ISO-TP/UDS over the ESP32's own CAN controller, replacing the
  ELM327 BLE dongle on this board. Read-only by construction (0x22 / 0x10 03),
with bus-off recovery. 12 V now comes from the module's own ADC.
- applog + a web API (/api/log, /api/modem, /api/ota, /api/can) so the module is
debuggable with no serial console attached, and the softAP pins itself to a
legal channel when no home WiFi is reachable.

OpenAiways

Own your car. Aiways — a Chinese EV maker with a big push into Europe — effectively vanished: the company doesn't answer mail, the Munich "headquarters" is empty, the in-car SIMs and the cloud servers are offline, and the phone app no longer works. Former contractors deny warranty service and don't even have the tools to analyse the cars. Yet the cars still drive well, most are only a few years old, and they're a pile of computers and microcontrollers on wheels that owners paid a lot of money for.

OpenAiways is a community effort to document and share how the Aiways U5 (and U6) electronics work — so owners can keep their cars running, bring back missing features, and reclaim the vehicles they own. (One upside of the situation: with the cloud gone, the car no longer phones home — it's now very privacy-friendly.)

  • 🛠 Code: this repository collects the open tools and firmware built around those findings.

What's in this repo

Path What
esp32-companion/ In-car ESP32-S3 companion firmware — remote control & preconditioning via the TBox, OBD2 telemetry, and Home Assistant integration. A prebuilt image and a browser-based flasher are in its README.
android-connect/ Head-unit Android app — keeps it on known Wi-Fi, ADB-over-Wi-Fi enabled, and a root SSH server running across reboots, with a web page for adding SSH keys instead of typing them on the touchscreen. A prebuilt APK is in its README.

More components will be added over time.
